My senior peacock with his wall-eyed eyeball’s
not so stubborn and superior as you –

why don’t you do the not-done thing occasionally,
and encourage me
to do the not-done thing you want to do wrong, too?

Such as ?
Such as we could go off together somewhere,
just the two of us,
and I could sew you a special sleeper-suit,
and train you to walk backwards
like my bantam;

and we could go out somewhere;
and you wouldn’t have to be so serious
and high-minded all the time.
And we could be friends’
and talk to one another.

And I wouldn’t mind a certain inexperience.
And you wouldn’t mind disintegrating hips.
